24.10.2015 Federal Health Minister, Sussan Ley announced the federal government’s intention to amend the Narcotic Drugs Act to allow cannabis to be used by those with unbearable pain.
“I strongly suspect there is an opportunity for a pharmaceutical industry in the product and I know New South Wales and indeed our western New South Wales irrigated areas will be well placed.”
Federal Health Minister, Sussan LeyMs Ley says it is proposed a special access scheme for the drug be set up through the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
The Member for Farrer says as part of clinical trials in New South Wales, Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair, has started to look for land suitable for cannabis cultivation.
